The dance team started in March 2017 with just two members, Ketleetso Ndhlovu and Koketso Mogotlane.
Mogotlane said he attended the Indigenous Dance Academy (IDA).

“We started rehearsing and more people joined,” Mogotlane said.

Mogotlane said the dance group was given the name New Generation Fire Crew because of the famous “fire crew” who achieved a lot in the entertainment industry and were also part of IDA.

“The way they danced and the things they did made us want to be like them and more,” Mogotlane added.

The dance team consists of six members, Koketso and Ketleetso along with Junior Gamede, Nhlanhla Hlongwane, Sphiwe Tshabalala and Lamla Mhlungulwana.

Mogotlane said winning their first competition at the Mall of Thembisa Dance Competition in 2020 put them on the map and led them to work with Loxion Kulca co-founder Wandi Nzimande.

“Another memorable moment for the dance team was when we became the opening act for a show called The Evolution of Mzansi Street Culture on SABC 1.”

The team members hope to have their own dance studio and host their own shows internationally and locally in the future.
