The Golden Thread, a multimedia dance production, takes us on a journey through different worlds where unique timing and tempos are essential to the sustenance of its people. Each world reveals a distinct key that unlocks their Momentum Barrier, a special vehicle upon which Ease and Magical Alignment take place.

Kendra Barnes | Kendra Kimbrough Dance Ensemble

Kendra Barnes (she/her), Bay Area native, African contemporary and diasporic dancer, choreographer, instructor whose work as co-choreographer of Cal Shakes’ Black Odyssey was a finalist for Best Choreography of TBA. As a choreographer for the African-American Shakespeare Company, she received a Broadway World Award for Best Choreography and a TBA finalist for Outstanding Ensemble of a Play (For Colored Girls). She is the founder of K*STAR*PRODUCTIONS, a dance space inside Flax Art & Design in downtown Oakland as well as the performing arts presenting organization for the Kendra Kimbrough Dance Ensemble (KKDE ), and co-presenter of the Black Choreographers Festival: Here Now. She currently teaches dance at UC Berkeley and is an adjunct professor in the LEAP program at St. Mary’s College of CA.

Kendra Kimbrough Dance Ensemble (KKDE) was founded in 1996 by Kendra Barnes with a mission to bring together diverse cultures and communities through empowering performances that address the common human experiences of its audience. KKDE represents a range of ages and body types and incorporates elements of theater and dance to engage audiences with socio-cultural issues.
