Leeds City College dance team take center stage at national event – FE News

Sixteen dance and musical theater students from Leeds City College have been selected to perform on stage for the third time at the world’s biggest dance event, Move It 2022.

Performers from the college’s ‘Explosive Dance Crew’ attended the London event alongside a group of creative arts students and staff. Adopting a hip-hop and commercial dance style, the team was selected to perform by a panel of specialists after submitting an application and a video.

Among the staff present was tutor, Samantha Rutter, who was specially selected to lead a bespoke workshop as part of the global event.

Samantha Rutter, who teaches performing arts at Leeds City College, said:

“It was an incredible honor to be chosen to lead my own unique class for over 70 people at Move It. It was an amazing opportunity to showcase our talented students and staff internationally.

“Move It allowed us to network with many inspiring industry professionals. Teaching and performing alongside major dance companies is a life changing opportunity for me and for the students. »

Olivia Fieldhouse, a Level 3 Musical Theater student at Leeds City College, performed as part of the Explosive Dance Crew. She commented:

“It was a fantastic but rare opportunity for us to showcase our skills on the world stage. We were thrilled to be part of the main stage performances, in which international dance groups put on breathtaking performances.

“It was incredibly rewarding to see our many rehearsals rewarded with the performance, which was based on the show ‘Money Heist’. This unforgettable experience boosted the confidence of the entire dance team, and we were inspired in ourselves engaging with wider networks and dance workshops.
