Prepared to host a three-day choir and dance marathon
Two of Botswana’s most famous groups, the Kgalemang Tumediso Motsete Choir, known as the KTM Choir and the Mophato Dance Team, have teamed up to deliver a breathtaking 3-day Choral Music and Dance Festival next September .
The two bands, one about to celebrate 30 years since its inception and the other celebrating 12 years, will hold a marathon music festival scheduled for September 8, 9 and 10 at the Maitisong site in Gaborone.
The event will be held under the theme “A re yeng Botswana”.
Speaking to members of the press on Tuesday, KTM Choir Council Chairman Lorato Morapedi explained how winning a gold medal at the prestigious European Choir Games encouraged them to do more. Morapedi said his choir prides itself on telling versatile stories through choral music. “We mostly tell these stories in the vernacular, Setswana, but of course as needed we have used other languages like Chinese, Zulu, English and even French,” said- she declared.
According to Morapedi, KTM’s strength is to present Botswana’s history and culture through song, which they have done quite well over the past three decades, but now expanding their portfolio they have decided to do teams up with another group that has done well in telling the story of Botswana. , Mophato dance team.
“We continue to question ourselves on how we can rise and therefore why our marriage with Mophato. Mophato and ourselves are very similar in that we tell these stories through song as they tell the stories through dance and we thought what a great idea it would be to bring these two forces together,” Morapedi said. .
For his part, Andrew Kola, Founder and Director of the Mophato Dance Team, also added that music and dance are undoubtedly the only art forms that bring together different people from different backgrounds and beliefs under one roof for a common goal.
“What better way to give you early independence than through this collaboration? Both teams are working hard behind the scenes to give customers never-before-seen material that I’m sure will put you on the edge of your seats, so I urge you to come out and not just support us, but come along see what we have to offer,” he said.
Tickets for the event are sold on web tickets for 350 VIP and standard ticket P 200.
