Hip hop dance troupe to give free performances in Moray
A hip hop dance troupe will be giving two free outdoor performances in Moray next week.
Born to Protest premieres at The Square in Fochabers at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, October 20, and concurrently on Thursday, October 21, on Elgin’s Plainstones.
Created by Joseph Toonga and Just Us Dance Theater, his company of seven, the work aims to dismantle presumptions about blacks.
Often inspired by real stories, he will present hip hop rhythms as well as a voice over.
Dance North, the Findhorn-based organization, helps promote the performances.
On a related theme, a group of young dancers from Moray will stage their Savage performance tomorrow and Saturday in the Findhorn Dunes.
The work, which was first performed in July, is inspired by Lord of the Flies, a grim tale of what happens after a group of schoolchildren strand on a desert island.
To put a new spin on things, the Dance North Youth Company’s production features an all-female cast.
Performances take place at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. on Friday, and again on Saturday
