Britain’s Got Talent: Northampton dance group miss final but ‘inspire so many’

Born to Perform received a standing ovation after their semi-final performance on Britain’s Got Talent.

A dance group from Northampton did not make the Britain’s Got Talent final but have ‘inspired so many’ on their journey.

Born to Perform, which is a dance school for young people with special needs, appeared on the popular ITV talent show on Monday night (May 30).

During the show, eight acts competed for audience votes. The act with the most votes was sent directly to the final. The judges then chose an act from the two acts with the second highest number of votes to enter the final as well.

Although the dance troupe did not place in the top three in the first semi-final, they once again impressed the judges.

In a video released ahead of the group’s semi-final, the dancers said, “We want to show the world that having a disability should never hold you back.” The band then filled the stage with color, energy and positivity as they danced – and cartwheeled – to a medley of songs, which led to a standing ovation from all four judges.

After the dance, Golden Buzzer judge David Walliams said, “I’m so proud that I got to press the Golden Buzzer for you guys.

“It was exactly what I hoped for. It was full of joy, full of love, full of passion and it was how you want the world to be; fun and inclusive.” Judge went on to state that if Born to Perform is not in the finals, he “leaves the show”.

Simon Cowell backed up the comment saying the performance was “a thousand times better” than the audition, that he thinks the band will make it to the final and have “a chance” to win it.

Alesha Dixon told the group that they “inspire so many people” and Amanda Holden added that her ears were “bleeding” from the “screams and cheers” of the audience behind her.

The dancers missed singer Maxwell Thorpe and ventriloquist Jamie Leahey, who will both take part in the grand finale on Sunday June 5, which will be broadcast live on ITV from 7.30pm to 10pm.
