Bristol dance troupe Dark Angels to appear in E4 street dance documentary

Thirty young street dancers from Bristol are set to appear in the E4 documentary, Street Dance: Against the Odds, as they face the biggest challenge of their lives. The Bishopsworth Dark Angels dance group, part of the Angels Dance Academy, led by charismatic director Charlie Bedford, is aiming to win two gold medals at the world hip hop dance championship.

But before his top two teams can go global, they must qualify for the National Hip Hop Championships in Bournemouth. However, with a canceled season and months out of the studio due to the pandemic, it will be an uphill battle.

Despite a remarkable crop of trophies so far, Charlie has bigger ambitions this year for both of his teams and will stop at nothing to ensure they have a chance of success. He’s determined his elite team Dark Angels and his younger, less experienced women’s team Dominon Premier win gold, and each dancer will have to push harder than ever to prove they deserve a place in the teams.

It’s not the first time the group has appeared on TV, as Dark Angels took part in BBC’s The Greatest Dancer live broadcasts in 2020. With their jaw-dropping routine, the 12 dancers wowed the judges and were Oti Mabuse’s pick of the day.

Street Dance: Against the Odds follows dancers in and out of the studio as they juggle a grueling workout with their daily lives. From trash men to college students, educators to school kids, they’ll grapple with their physical and mental health, friendships and relationships as they try to turn all their plates in a bid to have their most successful season ever. all the time.

These five months will really prove that anything can happen in a season and that there are no second chances.

The first episode will follow Charlie and the teams as they emerge from the pandemic with just 12 weeks until the qualifying Nationals, and it won’t be long before Charlie realizes he’s taken on too much, too soon. His top team, the “Dark Angels”, has two new dancers among them, best friends and bin men Brad and Sam. When they fail to impress, Charlie realizes he may have to make drastic decisions that will leave the group in shock.

Meanwhile, her less experienced girl team ‘Dominon Premier’ struggles and top dancer Rosie aka ‘Stadds’ struggles with mental health impacting her performance in the studio. With the Nationals just weeks away, Charlie hopes his teams can stand out and shine – but do they all have what it takes?

Street Dance: Against the Odds airs Thursday, March 3 on E4.
